Another Media Experience

I do hope that when we get back home, our brushes with fame go back down to zero.  But for now it's what we've got. I know that they are so frequent because it's Heavenly Father's way of spreading Jesus Christ's light. Last week we had the opportunity to go to an event to teach foreigners about Chinese New Year.  It was held in a historic home in Green Fruit Alley.  We were taught the history of the celebration, had an artist show us how to paint calligraphy and had the opportunity to paint some ourselves, we cut window decorations and got to dip some fruit in candy coating.  Journalists were all over interviewing for radio, newspaper and TV.  Then we left with way too many goodies.   We'll start with my photos of the event: Here is the portion of the newspaper article that we are in: Now.  Just for the record, I did NOT say that!  I said that people were kind and waved back at me when I waved to them.  But here in China the media says what they want you to thin

Free Entertainment: Another Photo Dump

A garbage can in the middle of a forest for "kitchen waste".  Hmmm. A miniature golf course.  The front edge of the green is cut off, but it only went a foot past the hole.  There were 3 of these in the whole course.  Apparently it's not too big of a thing here.  Below is an advertisement for an up and coming attraction.  Almost all advertisements of such things use non-Chinese people as models. It's kind of like they are saying this place is good enough for foreigners to come, so you will want to come too.  It's just a fascinating thing that they do this.  It's especially interesting when all of the other media tells the Chinese people what a great city, or province or country they live in and how well-taken-care-of they are. Civilized behavior is really important here, per the next three pictures. An interesting instruction when it's on stairs! I'm puzzled. Stolen identity. Or something. This would not sell well in America. This is my Christmas tree

Biechau

We had seen this place on the Internet several months ago and have wanted to visit so it was one of the top things on our list when we've been able to get out and about.   It was pretty interesting.  All of these sculptures are made from the stalks of rice, then spray painted yellow.  All I have to say is that that is a heck of a lot of spray paint!   Many scenes depicted farm life anciently. Tom and Wang Jian Then they had a science fiction type section.  These pieces were enormous. After we wandered around the straw statues we went over to see the greenhouse section.  As we were walking up, a young man approached us asking us if we'd like to pick strawberries for free.  The girls were up for that!  We were each given a basket and walked to a greenhouse and told to pick all we wanted. The catch, of course was that they could use the videos/photos they took of us for advertisement.  This city must be getting so sick of seeing our mugshots advertising everything!!! We came home
